Electrical Fence Installation, Monitoring and Maintenance

Defensor Security has been installing electrical fences, maintaining and monitoring them for over a decade. We install new electrical fences, add an extension to your existing one or fix one that may not be working correctly.

We provide multiple electrical fence options, though they are barriers made from metal pieces with electrical charges running through them at the most basic level. However, the fence needs to be constructed so that anything attempting to pass through it is shocked. Often the shock isn’t fatal but can be fatal depending on the circumstance. A well-designed and built electrical fence isn’t meant to deliver a fatal shock and yet isn’t easily disrupted by an intruder.

Defensor Security designs and builds electrical fences to meet the needs of our clients. Regardless of if you are a home or business owner, an electric fence may be what you need to deter potential intruders.

The Anatomy of A Professionally Installed Electrical Fence

An electrical fencing system has several components. Every one of these is critical to ensuring that the fence is set up and performs as it should, i.e., provide a shock when someone tries to break in. The essential components in the system are but may not be limited to:

  • Posts
  • Insulators
  • Warning signs
  • Brackets
  • Energizers
  • Batteries
  • Wires and cabling

It is crucial to keep in mind that in South Africa, all electrical fences need to be maintained, installed, and operated as per the Electric Fence rules. That’s why you need to hire specialists like us who will make sure that your electrical fencing complies with these rules.

Types of Electrical Fences

As mentioned earlier, we install many different types of electric fences depending on your security needs. However, there are three categories of electrical fences:

A piggyback electrical fence – The electrical fence in this system is built on the top of the existing fence, which makes the region more secure. The profile of the fence is either screwed or riveted into the existing post or pillars, which means no additional structures need to be erected to support it.

Above the wall – As the term suggests, these fences are installed on top of the wall. The fence may be mounted on the existing perimeter barrier like precast concrete, masonry, etc.

The standalone fence – The standalone fence means that the fence is the only barrier. It is often used where large areas need to be fenced off.

Why Hire Defensor Security To Install your Electrical Fence?

While many homeowners may attempt to install an electric fence of their own, the fact is that only a registered electrician can do it as per the electrical fence legislation. An installer like us has to be registered with the Department of Labor as an installer of electric fencing.

Also, electrical fence installations are only possible after a Certificate of Compliance is received, which too can only be done by a certified Electric Fence System Installer to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act’s Electrical Machinery Regulations.

As a property owner, it is your job to ensure that the installer is indeed registered!
